Summer has arrived in les Landes at last and the beach breaks of South west France have begun to pump! This is what the Surf Affinity girls have been up to so far this summer and also, an insight into what treats we've got in store for the coming months... Whoo hooooo!! From total rippers to never evers, the Surf Affinity camp has already seen the skills of plenty of shradical ladies who just wanna surf! We realise that there are loads of chicas out there who love to surf but perhaps have friends whose interests lie elsewhere. That's why we want to make our surf camp as flexible and accessible as possible. You can now stay in the pine forests of les Landes for £20 per night and design your own surf holiday to your own specifications. You can include surf equipment, lessons or evening meals. Your surf holiday, exactly as you want it to be! We still have Ashleigh Bennetts from the O'Neill Surf Academy heading out next week to teach a few ladies who are a little less confident in the water, and she'll be with us again for a week from the 1st September. There are still places available on both of these weeks for a few lucky ladies at an insanely reduced rate of £440 (includes lessons, accommodation, equipment and five evening meals), so let us know pronto if you'd like to be involved! The beaches of South-west France will be in for a right royal treat on Thursday 10th June. Nikita sponsored surf camps, Surf Akademi and Surf Affinity will be joining forces in the water to rip up the waves and enjoy coaching and ace tips from lovely Nikita surfers Oceane Leveque and Mia Mostrom. Inspiration and encouragement are the name of the game, and as Nikita are ‘the brand for girls who ride’, they have been uber enthusiastic for everyone to get involved. Surfing can often be a solitary sport but with support from Nikita, the various surf camps will be able to get together and have some good old-fashioned fun. It really will be a sight for sore eyes when fifty hot surf chicks take to the waters of les Landes… watch out boys! To top things off, Nikita have kindly organised for a barbeque and party to be held at the super cool bar ‘Le Surfing’ right on the beach at one of Hossegor’s premier surf spots, les Estagnots. It will be the perfect opportunity for the girls to let their hair down and party into the wee hours, so if you’re in Hossegor on the 10th June, you’ll have to come and join the fun! Method TV will also be there in all their extreme sports glory, filming every inch of the action, so be sure to check out all the footage after the event. Fingers crossed for some sick waves and amazing sunshine!

A Facebook page has just been launched to promote the case for Jenny Jones as the BBC’s next ‘Sports Personality of the Year’. As soon as we saw it we had one thought: “"Dam straight!" The boys at Whitelines mag give us the lowdown on how Facebook has been used as the voice of the people once more... Thanks to a national obsession with Olympic golds, snowboarding is largely ignored by the mainstream media in favour of some pretty random sports (skeleton anyone?). We therefore believe it’s high time Jenny got some recognition for being the most successful British snowboarder of all time – and arguably, the most successful British wintersports athlete of all time. Three X-Games gold medals on the trot, against the world’s best riders, is proof of a rare talent indeed. But for slopestyle’s mystifying exclusion from the Olympics there’s a fair chance she’d have a gold from Turin or Vancouver stashed in her knicker drawer too. And when it comes to personality, is there even any argument? I mean, previous winners of the BBC award have included such conversation specialists as Ryan Giggs, Michael Owen and Jonny Wilkinson. Jenny has more personality in her little toe than those three put together! And heck, if the royal showjumper Zara Phillips could win the award in 2006 for riding a horse, surely our own Bristol princess can cause an upset? Let’s not give it to another boring footballer who gets paid an obscene amount of money to roll around in agony whenever his shirt’s pulled. Last year 2009 WCT Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) won the Quiksilver Pro France title at Les Bourdaines, Seignosse. Back in the South West of France, the world’s top male surfers will competing in the 7th round of the 2010 Tour. Surf Affinity will be in the thick of all the action this year, surfing and soaking up the sun at the neighbouring breaks. After watching the heats we will be taking trips out in the evenings to enjoy the atmosphere and party with the pros in Hossegor. The Northern Hemisphere’s winter might officially be over, but as the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series travels to the most northerly town on the British mainland, for the 144 surfers getting into the water, it will feel like anything but. Us girlies are tough biscuits and a dump of spring snow and park closure aint gonna stop our park day plans. The Sheila Slopestyle event, being organised by Abi at upflatdown and Renelle from Alliance, suffered a slight blow when we found out the evening before that the park was going tobe shut for 3 days. Hmm bugger! After an initial panic, we put on some thick socks and stomped into the snow to scope out the backyard. The Alliance crew had recently had a solid, little rail custom made (with self lubricating plastic and everything), so we just needed to find a good spot to set up. We found a great kicker ridge and whilst joking that we needed a piste basher, one appeared as if commanded by the snow angels. Renelle somehow managed to stop it and convince the nicest piste basher-er in the world to help us out. This was a sign, Sheilas Slopestyle was gonna be OK! Bribed with just a few beers and an egg butty my favourite Canadian, Nabes, and the Jam’s Paddy and Tristan were up and ready to help us out at 7.30am. The boy muscle joined us and Ben from Alliance in some serious shovelling to get our park shaped in time for the sheilas arriving at 11am. It couldn’t have worked out better. With 3 powder kickers of varying sizes to cater for all levels and the rail just below, we’d only gone and got our slopestyle format all set up. Renelle met everyone in Le Lac and brought the trail of 44 girls in, intriguing the onlookers on the lift above. Some of the girls had never even ventured into a park before, having found them too intimidating. However, by the end of the morning, with help from the Alliance instructors and encouragement from their fellow girlies, everyone was hitting the box and the little kicker. The more experienced girls were getting into spinning and even flipping, powered by the soft powder landing. The bigger kickers looked a bit scary with a wee road gap but once the first lass hit it, they were lining up to get their turn. At lunch, Rog and his crew at the Melezes Hotel over the road (who had been keeping us motivated all morning by cranking up the tunes), let us shelter in their bar while we munched on our picnic. Andy Parant (Tignes Official X Games photographer) joined us and shared his top tips to get a good shot for the competition in the afternoon. The photography would have to wait though, as all the girls were excited by their morning session and were too eager to get back to flying and sliding to take pics. In the evening, we all headed to the Jam bar to celebrate our brilliance with a few bottles of the pink stuff. The footage from the day was played to relive the glory and slams and we had a whole load of prizes courtesy of Nikita, Alliance, Tignes Spirit and us at Surf Affinity to reward the best chicks from the day. Everyone did really well and we can’t wait to see you next year for more sheila shred events. A ta very much goes to everyone that helped out and Renelle says soz for being so stern with the boys that wanted to gate crash our park. Gotta work on the moobs boys. The 2010 ASP World Tour and ASP Women’s World Tour season is less than a week away. Watch it live at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast from February 27 through March 10, 2010. The competition will take place at southern end of the Gold Coast's iconic point break of Snapper Rocks. This year's Quiksilver Pro presented by Land Rover will feature the world's top 45 ASP surfers including Mick Fanning (AUS), Joel Parkinson (AUS), Kelly Slater and Julian Wilson(AUS)as a wildcard. The world's top 17 female surfers will also be getting involved with Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Melanie Bartels (HAW) as favourites and Laura Enever (AUS) and Tyler Wright (AUS) as the wildcard contenders. The second stage on the Longboard European Cup is underway this weekend at Vieux Boucau, North of Hossegor. The circuit, created by the European Surfing Federation has 7 stages, Jersey, Vieux Boucau, Biscarosse, Lacanau, Imessouane, Estoril, and Faro. Large conditions are set for this weekend and the best European longboarders like Delperro, Creignou, Skinner, Deniel will be set to give us a good show! Good waves, offshore winds, sunshine and 30 degrees heat, what more could a girl ask for??

Hossegor has been host to a massivo Latino festival this weekend, which saw huge bands and some uber impressive wiggling at the Place des Landais, overlooking the sea. The Surf Affinity girls shimmied into the crowds and managed to demonstrate how NOT to salsa. 12/10 for effort, but plenty of room for improvement in the technique department!

Concerts, street parties and bull-running events take place throughout the week. We went down last night to watch the huge firework display in La Concha Bay. All week teams of firework specialists from around the world compete to offer the most spectacular show.
