Where do you get your inspiration to surf?
Every time you see the sea and glimpse those waves.
The place you call home?
That’s a tough one - My childhood home is in Yorkshire, but I’ve also lived in Edinburgh where I have a lot of friends and also in France where I spend most of my time these days, so quite a few places really!
How many years have you clocked up on a surfboard?
My surfing is a little sporadic - I first surfed a wave when I was very wee on a bodyboard in Devon. The first time I surfed a proper wave was probably in Scotland when I lived in Edinburgh but, since then, I have spent the last three summers on the south west coast of France. It is perfect for surfing here as you get days of such nice, perfect, clean and friendly waves – and it’s so much warmer!
What do you do for a living?
As little as possible to get by so that I have the most possible time available for surfing in the summers and playing in the snow in the winters.
What do you love most about surfing?
The fact that its so easy to get in the water. Just grab your board and do it!
Biggest achievement so far?
Survived two winter seasons working as a chalet girl.
Favourite people to surf with and why?
Most definitely the girlies. We always have a giggle and everyone gets a wave - none of this fighting for a wave and stupid aggression that you sometimes get in the water.
UK or France for waves?
France – it’s a whole lot warmer.
Most manic experience?
Probably in Venezuela when a friend and I were swimming in the sea and we got pulled out in a bad rip current. Not fun!
Which places that you’ve visited have given you memories for life?
So many its hard to say, I travelled in South America when I was 18 had so many experiences there its hard pick just a few out. So much happens there every day.
Any other passions that come close to surfing?
I used to be quite into windsurfing, spending a season over in Kos in Greece. I do still love windsurfing, but there are way more hassles with rigging sails that just waste time before you even get out on the water.
What stops you going mad when there’s no swell?
I'm not very good at it I must say. I do go a little mad, but running on the beach is always a good diversion for body and mind.
Favourite foods?
Depends on the time of year. Summers are great for good old BBQs, but we also got well in to our paellas last year.
Big messy night or an early one with a dvd?
I do like the random messy nights that you’re not expecting and just happen after a few too many apres beers. I’ll admit to curling up and watching a DVD in my chillout time though.
If you could do anything in a year, what would it be?
Still be in the mountains in the winters and still on the coast in the summers, perhaps branching out to a few more exotic locations – Fiji? Hawaii???
Ever met anyone famous?
Ha, not really. I did bump into Alf Stewart from Home and Away when I was travelling in Australia though!
Favourite time of year?
Early summer and early winter, when you know you have the whole season ahead of you.
One thing that drives you?
Fresh lines in the snow and surfing as the sun rises and sets.
Where to next?
I really want to be able to have my lifestyle but not do the gruelling seasonal jobs that come along with them. I’d love to be able to fund my surfing and skiing whilst working with the industry in some way.
Why is an all-girl surf camp such an ace idea?!
So a load of girls can all have fun in the water without the pressure of the guys stealing your waves. Not in a girl power way either, just in a ‘have a laugh kind’ of way!
Give us a line to sign off with…
Yay to more girls getting in the water.
