Where do you get your inspiration to surf?
Mind surfing the last great wave you caught…knowing there’s always more…
The place you call home?
Currently the Orkney Islands, off the North coast of Scotland.
What do you love most about surfing?
The clarity that it gives you. So focussed but so relaxed, nothing else comes close!
Biggest achievement so far?
Jeepers, making it through my masters degree a few years ago…I swear the only thing that got me through it was my longboard in the tiny summer waves of Tynemouth for the three months of my research project…
Favourite people to surf with and why?
Ah the French ladies, the Orkney crew, the Kiwi boys and anyone who’s just figured it out for the first time, that’s some serious stoke!
UK or France for waves?
Well Orkney’s totally uncrowded which is amazing…but it’s sooooo cold! I’d go for a bikini anytime…France baby!
Most manic experience?
Ahhahahah! Far too many to mention…one of the worst was getting toxic shellfish food poisoning on a flight from Manila to Dubai…passed out in the plane toilet in a pool of my own vomit. Luckily there were 30 Filipino nurses to sort me out!
Which places that you’ve visited have given you memories for life?
Anywhere and everywhere, it’s all about the experience…good or bad!
Any other passions that come close to surfing?
Not many…photography and skiing just about get there!
Favourite foods?
Absolutely anything after a watery session, but if I had to be picky…sardines caught off the pier and BBQ’d on the beach…Hugh Fernely Whittingstall eat your heart out!
Big messy night or an early one with a dvd?
Depends on what the swell forecast looks likes…can I have beers with my DVD?
Ever met anyone famous?
Met? No. Pointed at, jumped around, giggled and generally got a little bit crazy over…plenty. I think Coz and I have managed to scare the daylights out of a few pros in our time! Poor Taj…
